Experience & Expertise

Tooling Knowledge Earned On The Job

Century Drill & Tool was founded in 1940 to supply working tradespeople — not catalogues. That origin still defines how we specify geometry, steel grade and coating. Our product engineers work directly with distributors, fleet maintenance shops, welding houses and cabinet makers, then translate that feedback into measurable design decisions.

  • Material-first engineering. M2 HSS, M35/M42 cobalt, tungsten carbide and bi-metal constructions are selected by application, not by price point.
  • Geometry that matters. 135° split points for reduced walking, 118° conventional points for general drilling, variable tooth pitch on bi-metal blades for chatter control.
  • Verified consistency. Incoming steel certification, Rockwell hardness checks, run-out and diameter inspection on production cutting tools.
  • Retail and industrial packaging. Clamshell, tube, index case, bulk and private-label formats supported for distributor programs.

Match The Tool To The Material

Most premature tool failure is a specification problem, not a quality problem. Use this reference as a starting point when building an order or advising an end user.

Quality Control You Can Document

Procurement teams need more than a product photo. Century Drill & Tool maintains traceable specification data for every active line so buyers, safety officers and end users are working from the same information.

  • Reinforced abrasive wheels supplied with marked maximum operating speed and wheel type designation on every label.
  • Cutting tool traceability from steel grade and heat treatment through to final gauge inspection.
  • Consistent catalogue data — diameters, shank types, thread designations, pack quantities and barcodes ready for ERP import.
  • Responsive after-sales support through our support centre for application questions, documentation and product guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Specify cobalt (HSS-Co, M35/M42 class) drill bits with a 135° split point. Cobalt holds its edge against the work-hardening and heat build-up that destroys standard HSS in stainless and tool steel. Black oxide or bright HSS remains the most cost-effective choice for mild steel, aluminium, brass and wood.

A Type 1 flat wheel is built for straight cutting with the wheel edge held roughly 90° to the workpiece. A Type 27 depressed-centre wheel is designed for surface grinding and weld blending at a 15°–30° angle. Using one in place of the other overloads the bond, shortens wheel life and creates an avoidable safety risk.

Drill a pilot hole in the broken fastener with a left-hand bit first; the reverse rotation often backs the fastener out on its own. If it stays put, drive a tapered left-hand spiral extractor into the pilot hole — extraction torque tightens the grip as it turns counter-clockwise, so the fastener comes out without damaging the surrounding thread.

Yes. We support industrial distributors, hardware buying groups, automotive aftermarket channels and OEM packaging programs. Catalogue data, packaging formats and product documentation are available through our support pages, and our team can advise on assortment planning by application.

Thread restoring files clean and reform external threads that are bruised or burred, covering several pitches on one tool without taking the fastener out of service. Where thread material is actually missing or stripped, a tap, die or dedicated thread restorer set is the correct repair.
